Scott Benefield is the designer and gaffer for the production line of Isola Glass. Prior to starting this studio in 1996 he spent six years as a partner, designer and gaffer for Studio Inferno (New Orleans).

He received his MFA in glass from Ohio State University in 1990, following a year spent in Sweden on a Fulbright-Hays grant to study glass design with Ann Wolff.  He is currently the President of the Glass Art Society and editor of the GAS News.

He has had a long-standing affiliation with the Pilchuck Glass School, working on the staff in the past fifteen years in various capacities and serving as a teaching assistant to Judith Schaechter, Richard Marquis and Philip Baldwin/Monica Guggisberg. In the summer of 1996 he studied with the Italian maestro Lino Tagliapietra, inspiring the current line of work.
