My
wheelthrown earthenware bowls are burnished and sprayed
with fine particles of decanted clay called terra sigillata.
This process gives me a surface that is smooth, white
and porous.
With
these properties I am provided with a beautiful surfaceprepared
to receive the application of traditional ceramic materials,
namely slips and glazes. On some pieces I will also
use acrylics, decals, paper, gold leaf and varnish.
Much
of my work is sagger fired in wood facilitating the
creation of the subtle color variations.
The
graceful, elegant bowl forms that I create become my
three-dimensional canvas. The
motifs,
lines, and color relationships are based on the random
patterns found in my environment, thus giving you an
intimate reflection of how I perceive it. I am inspired
by the patterns I sense on the surface of the earth;
the rocks, water, sky and trees.
